SIREN Overseas!
Faber signs young-adult fantasy series
07.12.09 Victoria Gallagher
Faber has acquired the rights to a new young-adult fantasy series by Tricia Rayburn.
In a pre-emptive deal, publishing director for children's books Julia Heydon-Wells bought UK and Commonwealth rights - excluding Australia and New Zealand - from Angharad Kowal, British rights director at Writers House.
The series currently comprises three titles, the first of which is called Siren. The book follows the story of Vanessa, whose elder sister has just died. She investigates a string of water-related-fatalities where the victims are all found eerily grinning from ear to ear. The UK publication date for Siren is yet to be confirmed.
Australian and New Zealand rights were also sold at auction to Penguin Australia.

Maggie Tuesday Teaser!
At exactly seven o’clock, Maggie stepped out of the limo and onto the long walkway leading to the front doors of the Paradise Cove Country Club. She couldn’t wait to go inside and see Arnie, but standing there in her mom’s sleeveless black velvet dress with a puffy skirt and sparkly rhinestone hem, the pearl necklace Aunt Violetta had given her for her twelfth birthday, and her favorite pair of black patent leather (one-inch) heels, she felt like something big was about to happen. Something major. Something that only happened once in a person’s lifetime.
